Sculpture by the sea 2014

Hi everyone, if you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend you to visit the annual art exhibition called "sculpture by the sea" that takes place in Cottesloe.
I am going there again on Thursday to take more photos but, in the meanwhile, enjoy these ones and let me know if you have visited the exhibition and what sculpture you liked more.

A day in Fremantle (photos)

Film d'amore per la giornata dell'amore! - Love movies for Valentine's day

Oggi e' il 14 febbraio giornata mondiale dell'amore...o solo una buona trovata pubblicitaria per spingere la gente a comprare piu' fiori e cioccolatini???
Sia quel che sia mi e' venuta l'idea, per rimanere nel tema della propagazione dell'arte, di scrivere alcuni  titoli di film che considero tra i migliori nel genere romantico.
Sono probabilmente quelli a cui ho legato i miei ricordi ma alcuni di loro sono anche dei veri capolavori.

Questo elenco non deve essere necessariamente una classifica dal migliore al peggiore, infatti non vedrete un numero davanti al titolo bensi' il solo titolo.
Di molti ho amato la regia, altri invece si sono fatti strada nel mio cuore grazie ad una forte storia e alcuni sono forse la "commedia a lieto fine" di cui ogni tanto abbiamo tutti un po' bisogno!

Today is Valentine's day...The international day for love or just another commercial way to sell more flowers or chocolatines???? Honestly I don't mind but considerig the day I had the idea of writing down a list about my favourite "love" movies.
They are probably the ones I have memories about but some of them are also real masterpiece.

My choice is not a list from the best to the worst and, as you will see, there is no number in front of the titles but just the title.
Some movie has a great direction, other a strong story line and an other is just the "happy ending" one that sometimes we look for.

Progetto Storia dell'arte - 2° paragrafo

Oggi,  che è anche il mio compleanno,  mi dedico questa immagine di Keith Haring.... e, visto che tra due giorni è San Valentino, due persone con un cuore sono appropriatissime!
Questo artista, come molti altri nel tempo, è stato criticato e non compreso...d'altronde per i ben pensanti era solo uno che imbrattava le mura delle città con i suoi graffiti.

"Se cerco di modellare la mia vita su quella di qualcun altro, finisco per sprecarla riproducendo le cose per puro e vacuo spirito di accettazione. Ma se vivo la vita a modo mio e faccio in modo che gli altri artisti mi influenzino solo come riferimenti esterni o come punti di partenza, posso costruire una consapevolezza ancora maggiore invece di restarmene qui inattivo. Se sarò in grado di capire questo e di metterlo in pratica mi sarà d'aiuto, ma ho di nuovo paura..."

Regna dunque nella sua produzione artistica un forte desiderio di libertà, la volontà di non venir fagocitato da una realtà a volte troppo uguale a sé stessa...ma la paura è anche consapevolezza di fallire...


Attraverso le sue opere si cerca di trasmettere diverse emozioni. Si passa dai personaggi dei cartoon, con la loro voglia di vivere, a temi come il malessere, gli abusi sessuali o la droga... ma nel bene e nel male la realtà ritratta è sempre nuda e chiara.
La sua pop art, con i colori vivaci e le linee nette, ci arriva diretta come una pubblicità... Ed è questo lo scopo, raggiungere la massa per comunicare un pensiero.

Sarebbe bello se questo progetto diventasse anche un momento di scambio... Una sorta di "club letterario" di non molte pretese dove scambiarsi idee, punti di vista e condividere il piacere di propagare e salvaguardare l'arte.

Mi piaceva questa frase di Keith Haring per salutarci:
"I bambini sanno cose che la maggior parte della gente ha dimenticato".

Progetto STORIA DELL'ARTE

ANDY WARHOL "EIGHT ELVISES"

Come e' chiaro a chi legge il mio blog io non seguo un reale filo conduttore ma piu' che altro mi racconto e racconto...a volte mi indigno ed altre celebro...
Dopo aver letto la notizia, che riguardava una possibile eliminazione dell'insegnamento della storia dell'arte nelle scuole, mi e' venuta un po' l'idea di cominciare a cercare articoli, immagini e quanto altro per narrare quel mondo meraviglioso e sconfinato che e' l'ARTE.

Trovarmi in un paese straniero cosi' giovane mi fa apprezzare anche molto di piu' il patrimonio artistico del quale, negli anni, mi sono nutrita...ma credere che l'arte sia una prerogativa dell'Italia sarebbe anche una grande presunzione...dunque immaginiamo per un momento una generazione che cresca senza sapere chi fossero Leonardo Da Vinci, Chagall o Basquiat...Immagino che molti diranno che la suddetta generazione vivra' lo stesso e forse sara' piu' pratica nell'affrontare la vita di tutti i giorni...ma se anche pochi crederanno nel valore aggiunto che la conoscenza dell'arte possa dare all'esistenza allora le mie parole non saranno state vane!

Eliminare l'insegnamento della storia dell'arte mi ha riportato in mente, per associazione, il romanzo di Ray Bradbury " Fahrenheit 451". Per quelli che non ne conoscono la storia la riassumo dicendo che in una sorta di  societa' futura e dispotica tutti i libri venivano bruciati (da qui il titolo)...Ergo omologazione della societa', perdita dell'immaginario e maggiore controllo demografico...

Nel parlare di o mostrare opere d'arte, come e' per mia natura, non seguiro' nessun schema cronologico...Forse oggi pubblichero' un dagherrotipo e domani un quadro del rinascimento...Credo fervamente che l'importante sia parlarne!

My first Australia day in Australia!

Since I met Brad, even if we were not in Perth, we have tried to celebrate the Australia day wherever we were living... This year  has been my first "real" Australia day in Australia! For all my friends around the world I would like to explain what the 26st of January means for this country. 

January the 26st of 1788 Captain Athur Phillip took formal possession of the colony of New South Wales and raised the British flag for the first time in Sydney Cove. Therefore we can consider this day a sort of "Foundation Day" and since 1994 all states and territories celebrate Australia Day togheter on the actual day and they welcome new citizens or honour people who did great services. 

Celebrations started early in the morning with events on the local beaches. I actually went to Cottesloe one of the most popular and beautiful beach of Perth, there was a "thong challenge" to raise money for the 5 participating surf clubs and it has been awesome to see all those orange giant inflatable Havaianas thong in the ocean despite of the strong wind. The Havaianas challenge broke the world record with 2099 orange thong in the water!!!

After this Brad and I went to Fremantle for a walk...just because we love Freo!!!

In the afternoon we spent the day in Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour waiting for the fireworks.

Great show from 8pm that last 20 or more minutes...Just amazing watching the fireworks from a boat seeig the lights reflecting on the ocean.

What I really liked is the spirit of the day, the fact that people from all over the world were proud of being part of this big country.   

Da quando ho incontrato Brad , anche se non ci trovavamo in Italia, abbiamo sempre cercato di festeggiare l'Australia day ovuque fossimo...Quest'anno e' il mio primo vero Australia Day su suolo australiano!

Per i miei amici lontani vorrei spiegare velocemente cosa realmente significa questa festa per questo paese. Il 26 gennaio del 1788 il capitano Arthur Phillip prese formale posseso delle colonie vicino Sydney isssando la bandiera inglese. Possiamo dunque considerare questa giornata una sorta di festa della fondazione e dal 1994 tutti gli stati e i territori festeggiano insieme questa giornata dando il benvenuto a immigrati diventati nuovi cittatidini australiani e riconoscendo il valore di qualche persona per i servizi prestati.

Le celebrazioni sono iniziate presto, soprattutto con degli eventi sulla costa. Io sono andata a Cottesloe beach, una delle spiagge piu' famose e belle di Perth. 

A Cott si e' tenuta una sfida con delle gigantesche infradito havaianas arancioni, il tutto per raccogliere dei fondi per i 5 surf club partecipanti. Nonostante il forte vento la spiaggia a superato il record mondiale vincendo con 2099 partecipanti in acqua.

Dopo di questo siamo andati a fare una passeggiata a Fremantle...solo perche' amiamo Freo!

Il pomeriggio lo abbiamo trascorso a Fremantle Fishing Harbour aspettando i fuochi d'artificio. Uno spettacolo meraviglioso durato piu' di 20 minuti e che abbiamo visto dalla barca...una emozione vedere l'oceano illuminato dai fuochi.

Cio' che veramente mi e' piaciuto e' il fatto che persone provenienti da tutto  il mondo erano ugualmente orgogliose di essere parte di questo grande paese.

Shabby chic and the Art of recycling

Today I'm going to start a new project. .. I bought this coffee table for 10 dollars and now I'm going to make it useful again.  Let's start this new challenge!
What I need is sandpaper to smooth the surface, white primer, a candle, paintings in 2 different colours and a final varnish to seal.

Fashion and the city (Perth)

I probably sound redundant but my cultural backgroud only makes me think about fashion as something elegant, a little bit sophisticated and very feminine (talking about women's fashion!).

I am in Perth since the 1st of December and I have seen some kind of clothes that are not fashionable at all. I would like to start from the very bottom...Shoes (my "not so secret" passion!)...The "must have" of this summer seems to be a sort of, especially seen in white,  sandal with short and big square heel (you just should  ban that!) or a chunky wedge ...A photo can explain better what I'm talking about...

Sorry but even the red nail polish on your toes can't make these shoes sexy and feminine!!!

Short high waist pants  are also very popular and, to be honest I'm not completely against them but your body has to be in a perfect shape to wear them...otherwise don't do it, please!

Walking around the city you can also see lots of fluo clothes (tops, pants, dresses...), I know it's summer and the sun makes our souls brighter but, I'm probably old school, I still prefer a little black number!

Anyway this is only my modest point of view not a bible at all!

My honesty makes me say that I've also seen many really nice dresses, the only (big?) problem is they are very expensive. In Italy it's much easier to find good quality clothes for an affordable price. Could it be a sort of suggestion to think about?
